Have you ever told yourself, “Let me think about it” or “I need to think about it”? And how often did you actually “think about it” afterward? For me, never. I think that “I need to think about it” is just an excuse we make for ourselves. It’s like we tell ourselves we’ll think about it, but we immediately forget about it.
And yet, these topics are usually very important; it’s no coincidence that we believe they deserve to be thought through. But despite their importance, we forget. Why? Because we don’t want to think—sometimes about something specific, and sometimes at all. Thinking feels unfamiliar. Thinking is scary.
However, if we are faced with something we say we “need to think about,” we should just stop and think right away. Pause. Go over the information we think we need to think through once more. Tune into ourselves and the feelings this topic brings up. And think about how it applies to our lives. How our true self feels about it. How it might change us or, on the contrary, strengthen what’s already within us.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what can be thought about today.
