The past is a collection of combinations—image-feeling pairs—that illustrate neural connections. Frequent access to this bank of images and experiences is necessary for the cognitive process of self-awareness and the re-evaluation of oneself as an evolving individual. As the personality grows, previously established neural connections and, as a result, image-feeling pairs may break down and form new pairs in response to the formation of new neural pathways.

A person is always developing—maintaining existing neural connections and creating new ones to support them. If they work toward success, development leads to success. And vice versa.

Unfortunately, creating new neural pathways that are significantly different from the existing ones can be a long process (depending on what already exists) and requires mindfulness. It’s much easier to support existing pathways and create new ones in support of them.

That’s why personal growth is such a difficult endeavor.

Fortunately, neural pathways are plastic and can be transformed. So, a person can completely change their life
