The most important thing in life is not self-expression. Self-expression is incredibly important, undeniably so—because, in essence, this is the point of existence—to express yourself, your individuality… And precisely because of this, the most important thing is not to express yourself. It is to help others express themselves.
There is no bliss in expressing yourself in such a way that it leaves others indifferent. Self-expression without the context of how others perceive it is meaningless. And that’s why it’s incredibly beautiful—to give others the opportunity to express themselves. And the most wonderful thing is to give others the chance to express themselves while expressing yourself as well…
Clearly, this thought was not invented by me, but is something I’ve drawn from universal wisdom, so there is no merit of mine in this understanding. I’m just glad to have been open to it.
But here’s what I want to say… In this wisdom, there is an incredible depth that might not even be visible at first glance. Giving people the opportunity to express themselves is nothing less than the purest manifestation of Love—total acceptance, creation, “allowing them to be.” Giving yourself the chance to express yourself within the framework of others’ self-expression is like a love squared—such a profound love, deeper than which I cannot even imagine.
Even if this were the only wisdom I ever realized in my life—it would already be enough to consider that my life was not in vain.
Of course, it would be premature to say that I have fully grasped this wisdom and that I am completely immersed in it. But I am learning. Since the moment I connected with this understanding, I am learning to see my life through this lens. I won’t go into how even my sense of self has changed. Only a little time has passed, and I am still not always able to be conscious of this knowledge. But when I can be—I must admit that I’ve never experienced anything purer or deeper. No great love of my life compares to the feeling of creating space for even one person to express themselves, to be themselves, to blossom in that space, and to show themselves as an individual.
It’s simply beautiful.
