Creating a Website – Saving Money!

Did you ever hear that outsourcing may save you a lot of time and money? That’s very true: if you don’t know how to cook, but need to organize event with food, you will hire a catering service. If you are not a professional security guard – you will not take care of the security of your venture. You will hire professional security guards. But for some reason everyone thinks that they know how to make websites, disregarding the fact that it’s a knowledge which you don’t learn overnight. And even over two or three nights.

If you are not a professional web developer, you may not know a lot of details that are crucial for effective work of a website. I can’t stress it enough, it’s very important that any website is done by or under supervision of a professional web developer. Otherwise a lot of money and – what’s even worse – time can be wasted for a website that is not going to work properly.

Let’s play a little game.

I will ask you questions, and you answer sincerely – no peaking and looking for the answers online. What we need – is to determine if you are ready to even start working on your own website. Now, this is for you. I don’t require you to send me a proof of all positive answers. You will know yourself if what is asked of you below is anything that is familiar to you…

  • What is meta name and how is it used?
  • What is a name and how is it used?
  • What is !DOCTYPE and how is it used?
  • What is a code to embed an external style sheet on HTML page?
  • Which css attribute allows styling site content in columns?
  • What is z-index?
  • What margin bug does IE6 have?
  • What are hacks and why are they used in css styling?
  • What file format is commonly used for images with text?
  • Is it better to replace common HTML attributes with DIVs?
  • How many characters should description have?

How did it go? Are you scared yet? 😉 If you didn’t know answers to at least half of these questions, you should not try making your own website. YOU ARE NOT READY YET!

OK, you will say that – well – you can learn! Of course you can! But why would you spend time and money to learn something you are not planning to earn money doing? Just to make your own website? If you don’t learn web development well enough to be considered a pro, you will NOT be able to make a quality website, no matter how sure you are that you will. It may take many months (if not years) before you can gain enough knowledge to actually make a good livable website. (And more time if you are planning to also take care of your own online marketing). You could use that time to do what you actually want to do – sell, bake, teach, – whatever it is. So, if you don’t make websites for living, by all means, get yourself who one that does – and let him or her help you!

Save yourself time and money, let a professional make you a website!
